How many boxes do I need?

The quantity of boxes you require depends on the volume of your belongings. In most cases, students find that the 5 boxes included in our supply kit are adequate. Nevertheless, you have the flexibility to order as many boxes as you deem necessary. Please note that the use of our boxes is optional, if you need additional boxes at the last minute, you can purchase them from a local store.

For shipping purposes, it’s essential to use double-walled heavy-duty boxes. We recommend sourcing these boxes from reputable retailers like U-Haul, FedEx, UPS, and Staples. When selecting boxes, look for an Edge Crush Test (ECT) Rating of 42 or higher to ensure they meet the required shipping standards.

Here are some steps to help you determine how many Collegeboxes you may need:

Inventory Your Belongings: Start by creating an inventory of the items you plan to store or ship. This can help you estimate the volume of your belongings and identify any large or irregularly shaped items that may require special packaging.

Choose the Right Box Sizes: Our distinctive Collegebox is sized at 24”x16”x18”, designed to accommodate a wide range of items typically found in dorm rooms. This includes books, electronics, small appliances, clothing, and bedding. However, if you possess larger or unusually shaped items, you may wish to consider ordering additional boxes from UHaul.com to ensure they are adequately packed.

Packing Efficiency: Effective packing techniques can maximize your available space. It’s essential to fill boxes to their capacity without overloading them or making them excessively heavy. Additionally, remember to protect fragile items and use suitable padding for added protection during transportation.

Estimate Box Quantity: Based on your inventory and the box sizes you plan to use, estimate how many Collegeboxes you will need. It’s better to have a slight surplus of boxes than to run out during the packing process.

Consider Non-Boxed Items: Some items, such as furniture, bicycles, and larger appliances, may not fit in standard boxes. These items can be stored as is and do not require boxing.

Label and Organize: As you pack your items into Collegeboxes, be sure to label each box with its contents and any special handling instructions. This will help you stay organized and make it easier to access your items when needed.

Please keep in mind that the quantity of Collegeboxes required can differ significantly from person to person, depending on individual belongings and needs. It’s advisable to plan ahead, order the necessary boxes well in advance, and allow sufficient time for packing to ensure a seamless storage or shipping process.
