For some, the hardest part of college is simply feeding themselves. One person can only consume so many dining hall meals and fast food before wanting to flee home for mom’s cooking. Despite most student housing offering community kitchens, sharing a cooking area at any given time is an inconvenience. As easy as life is with a hot plate or an air fryer, those aren’t allowed in most dorms.
Don’t worry, Collegeboxes is here to help. We know you’re searching for easy college meals to make. We’ve created a list of the top five recipes that only require basic dorm room essentials like coffee cups and a microwave.
Our Top Five Easy Recipes for College Students
- 1 or 2 slices of bread
- 1 Tablespoon of Butter
- 1 Egg
- 3 Tablespoons of Milk
- Dash of Cinnamon
Waking up to breakfast on the weekends was one of the best feelings. Pancakes, eggs, and bacon hitting the nose as you walk down the stairs. There’s a quick and easy way to get a little bit of that back. French Toast in a cup.
Using a coffee cup, a slice or two of bread, and a few things stored in your mini fridge can bring this creation to life. Cut your slice of bread into cubes. Add butter to the bottom of the cup before stuffing the bread in it. In a separate cup, create a mixture of an egg, milk, cinnamon (you decide the amount), and any other sweet desire. Pour the mixture into the cup with your bread. Pop the cup into the microwave. Boom! College dorm food done right.
- ½ Cup Old-Fashioned Oats
- ½ Your Favorite Apple Chopped
- 1 Tablespoon of Raisins
- 1 Cup of Milk
- ¼ Teaspoon Cinnamon
Are you a grab and go type of person in the morning? That’s no problem at all as long as you can take five minutes the night before for this recipe. Using a mason jar or a sealable container, combine the ingredients and let sit in the fridge overnight. That’s it, and that’s why it’s an easy college dorm recipe.
Other versions of overnight oats we enjoy are:
- ½ Cup Elbow Macaroni
- ½ Cup Water
- 3 Tablespoons of Milk
- ¼ Cup of Shredded Cheddar Cheese
It’s a good thing college students prefer iced coffee because you’re going to need that mug again. We follow up our sweet breakfasts with a savory snack. Mac and cheese is a cheap and easy an easy to make meal for college students.
Fill the microwavable mug with the macaroni and water before putting it in the microwave for two to three minutes. Now add the milk, cheese, we usually add salt and pepper, use the microwave for 30 more seconds. Top with chives, bacon bits, or both!
4. Bagel Pizza
- 1 Bagel
- 2 Tablespoons of Pizza Sauce
- 2 Tablespoons of Shredded Mozzarella Cheese
Everyone loves pizza. Everyone loves bagels. Let’s make the perfect combination for a dorm room meal. There’s not too much to this one. Using the bagel halves as the foundation, top with pizza sauce (or a substitute like pesto), mozzarella cheese, and any other topping you’d like. Pop your two mini pizzas into the microwave until the cheese is melted. Unlike other breads, the thickness of the bagels doesn’t let them get soggy.
5. Flavored Whipped Cream
- Tub of Whipped Cream
- Any Flavor of Jell-O Packet
- Chocolate Chip or Fruit Toppings
Buying a pint of ice cream every night gets expensive. We get it, college is stressful, and you need that comfort food. This treat makes for an easy replacement. Find your favorite flavor of Jell-o – cherry, green apple, pineapple, strawberry – and dump it into a whipped cream container. Stir the flavored mixture until it is consistent with the whipped cream texture. Add any little toppings you’d like chocolate chips, fruits, or nuts.
