Where is Indiana University Located?

Indiana University (IU) is a public research university in Bloomington, Indiana. Founded in 1820, IU is the flagship institution of the Indiana University system, which includes seven campuses throughout the state, such as Northwest, Kokomo, and Indiana University – Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI)

IU Bloomington is renowned for its beautiful campus – from the Campus River that flows through campus to its historic buildings made from Indiana Limestone.

What is Indiana University Known For?

IU offers more than 550 academic programs, ranging from undergraduate majors to doctoral degrees. The university is particularly strong in the fields of business, education, music, and the arts – IU is home to many top-ranked programs in these areas. IU also has a strong research program and is a member of the prestigious Association of American Universities.

On campus, students can take part in a wide variety of extracurricular activities, including more than 750 student organizations and clubs. IU is also home to one of the largest fraternity and sorority communities in the country (about 17 percent of undergraduates are involved in the Greek system at IU), as well as a thriving sports scene.

IU’s Division I athletic teams, known as the Hoosiers, compete in the Big Ten Conference. Basketball is a big deal for IU students and Indiana residents. The Hoosiers hit the hardwood at Assembly Hall where multiple National Championship banners are hung.

In housing, IU offers various options, including traditional residence halls, apartments, and fraternity and sorority houses. The university also offers a unique program called “Learning Communities,” which allows students with similar academic interests to live together in a residential community and take classes together.
